are gone when ponds and lakes were believed to be the dwellings for fishes. It
rather appears that with time even fishes have accepted a change in their
lodgings.
Keeping fishes in aquariums is nothing uncommon in today’s
world. But when it comes to the species of fishes which people prefer to keep
around, goldfishes top the list. Be it because of their enticing looks or
adaptive nature or anything else they are always preferred.

goldfishes in fish bowls. So because that they produce too much waste for a
bowl. They don’t thrive well in there and sometimes grow too long for a bowl.

goldfishes and their requisite surroundings. Some of them which have a huge
demand in Indian market are the common goldfish, comet goldfish, shubunkin
goldfish, fantail goldfish, veiltail goldfish, telescope goldfish, black moor
goldfish, lion-head goldfish, oranda goldfish, celestial goldfish, bubble eye
goldfish and ryukin goldfish.
Next in line are the feeding habits of goldfish which you
ought to know. You should never feed large amounts of food to your goldfish
instead you should arrange for small meals according to your own convenience.
Also goldfishes need more carbohydrates and less proteins , quite contrary to other
fishes. For them you should purchase food rich in vegetable items. Also you
should avoid food rich in grains and look for food with algae, kelps and
spirulina . You can also feed them peas, blanched vegetables, thin slices of
oranges and bloodworms.
Coming to their water habits, goldfishes require partial water
changes if their tank is not cycled. You should never change the entire water
of the tank , although bacteria thrive in poor conditions , you might end
up draining even the important bacteria.
After 3-4 weeks of partial water changing you should start draining ¾ of the water. Also you can opt for water
treatment to eliminate chlorine , chloramines and then perform frequent smaller
changes.
You should have an idea about the best place to keep goldfishes.
Always remember that they should be kept at a place with optimum light and
shade. They should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Also goldfish dislike
noisy and crowded areas. The temperature should not exceed 23.5 celsius. Of the
tank almost ¾ part should be left for open swimming of fishes and the rest ¼ be
utilized for decoration and pebbles. Last but not the least they should be
provided with plenty of cool water.
